Lammas Harvest Festival is the first festival of the harvest. It is celebrated from July 31st to August 2nd, while the climate is still basically summer. Nonetheless, Lammas is traditionally the first day of autumn.
The day of the first harvest is also known as: Lughnasadh, August Eve, Bread Festival, Elembiuos, Lunasa, Cornucopia (Strega), Thingtide.
At sunset on July 31, the harvest celebration party begins. Harvest crops that grow plumply. For this festival, the first grains of grain are harvested and specially baked into bread. The corn husks are then used to make a corn doll that is hung in the home to bring good luck for the year, and the previous year’s corn doll is burned on the Lammas bonfire. This is known as the First Harvest Festival, and any celebration will include raspberries, blackberries, blackberries, or anything ripe for the picking.
This is the time of the first harvest, when spring plants wilt and drop their fruits or seeds, which we eat and provide seeds for future sowing. As the sun rose further south each day and the nights became longer, the male god would also lose his power. The goddess looked on in sorrow and joy, realizing that the male god was dying but still lived within her like her child.

O Ripe God of the Fields, Lord of the Grains
When you are ready to surrender yourself to the goddess’s sickle
When heading to the Land of Eternal Summer
Please grant me wisdom and understanding
Dark Moon Goddess
When the sun loses its power
When the nights get cold
Please teach me the secret of rebirth
Rub the ears of wheat with your fingers so that the grains fall to the altar
Pick up a piece of fruit and take a bite
Taste it and say:
I share my first harvest
Mix its energy with mine
So that I can continue to pursue perfect star-like wisdom
Oh Goddess of the Moon and Lord of the Sun
The stars stopped before them

Harvest Festival Activities
Lammas
Use black thread to string Indian corn into a necklace.
If the festival falls on a rainy day, collect the rainwater in a glass or earthenware container, add dried mugwort and use it to charge items.
Make a witch bottle. Put some sharp objects inside the glass jar to prevent injury. Needles, pins, thorns, thistles, nails and broken glass can be used, and it’s also a good way to dispose of broken crockery, old sewing equipment and pins from new clothes. Bury it near the entrance to the house (such as near the driveway or front door), or place it in a large planter.
Sing a harvest hymn over cornbread for dinner: Mother Earth gives food, and the God of the Earth enters his territory. Through the Goddess giving life to the grains, God the Father is reborn after death.
Make a Corn Dolly and save up for the next Imbolc. Fold a bundle of wheat over and tie it near the top to form a head. Take a little fiber from each side of the main section and twist it into arms, tying them together in the front. Add a small bouquet of flowers to the “hands” and then you can decorate the Corn Dolly with a skirt and hat (the skirt and hat can be made of corn husks, if you like, or cotton material will work).
Collect blackberries and make a fresh pie marked with the Sun Cross.
Have a magical picnic and taste the bread and wine of the earth.
Germinate wheat germ in a clay saucer (these can be found at nurseries for use under clay pots). Sprouts can be added to homemade bread or used as an offering. Kids also love planting seeds and watching them grow.
God of grain, Lord of rebirth. Spring returns and the earth takes on a new look.
Make a Solar Wheel or Corn Man Wheel:
Turn a wire coat hanger into a circle and keep the hook attached to it. Make a small cardboard plate and glue the corn tips onto it. You can decorate it with any design, such as a pentagram or sun.
Place the Indian corn ears in the center of the circle and secure to the cardboard plate with hot glue. The Sun Wheel uses eight ears of corn and the Corn Man uses five ears of corn. If all the ears of corn meet exactly, you don’t need a disk, but if they are uneven, a disk will help. Wrap some of the rind from each ear of corn around the wire on either side of the ear, leaving some to stand out from the corn. Let dry overnight and hang on the front door.
Other activities:
Baking bread, making preserves, canning
Make a Corn Dolly (burn the ones from previous years and bury them)
