#Andean traditional healing is simple: just because we choose happiness
Andean traditional healing is not complicated. In fact, it’s very simple. Just like life.
Life is also simple: we choose happiness.
Happiness encompasses everything. Health, safety, shelter, food, clothing, career/job, prosperity, family, friends, community, creativity, passion. . . How can we be truly happy if one of our primary areas of human expression feels lacking?
Happiness does not mean that our lives are perfect. Without challenges or opportunities for personal growth, we would be bored to death. A core aspect of our humanity is to transcend where we are, even as we engage from the “now.”
Some spiritual traditions and schools of psychology tell us that it is not our circumstances that make us unhappy, but our reactions to our circumstances. They say happiness is a state of mind. As long as you choose happiness, no matter what happens, you will be happy. That’s right. But it’s unlikely, at least for most of us. We just haven’t “arrived” there yet.
So how do we get “there”? It’s different for each of us. Yet certain worldviews and spiritual cosmologies seem locked into simplifying our complexity. The Andean tradition is such a worldview and cosmology.
Buddhists ask, what is the meaning of life? Their answer is awareness. Andean mystics would agree. What is useful about the Andean mystical worldview, however, is that the goal is not to develop awareness to transcend humanity, experience enlightenment, reach nirvana, or escape the wheel of karma. Instead, Andean masters would say, our mission is not to release pain but to become joy. What matters is not our state of mind, but the state of our energy.
This is a major shift in focus! Andean traditional healing is not about the Buddha meditating on life under the Bodhi tree, but about the Laughing Buddha who is fully engaged in life.
Andean traditional healing mystics believe that our nature is to be happy, but we have forgotten this fact. Their way is to remember that we are happy beings. It’s that simple.
Everything they teach moves us toward that single goal: to remember who we really are and to live as we truly are—to be forever happy.
