#witch’s magic book丨Wicca’s history and beliefs

The witch has two magic books, one is called Grimoire and the other is called Book of Shadows.
Grimoire: A place where learned information is stored. Spells, ritual structures and any information such as plant correspondences, notes, anything related to magic are here.
Book of Shadows: A place where secrets are kept. Such as the spells you create and cast, their results, your dreams, etc.
Wicca History and Beliefs
W icca is very diverse and attractive to those looking for a path centered on nature and the divine. Wicca has no governing body and no famous prophets. Instead, as a Wiccan, you make many decisions about the precepts, beliefs, and traditions you follow and respect. These decisions are an important foundation for successful and long-term practice. In order to make these decisions correctly, it is important to understand the purpose and history of each tradition.
The Wiccan Rede
The ethics of The Wiccan Rede are the ethical system of Wicca. It is not a commandment or a law, but it is a guideline. The word rede comes from Middle English and means “advice” or “advice,” which is the principle of avoiding causing harm. Gerald Gardner (1884-1964), in his seminal 1957 book The Meaning of Witchcraft, introduced his set of precepts, or “Ardanes,” which included: * ** “You must not use magic for anything which will cause harm to anyone, and if, to prevent a greater wrong being done, you must discommode someone, you must do it only in a way which will abate the harm. You can’t use magic on anything that will cause harm to anyone, and if you have to upset someone in order to prevent a bigger mistake from happening, you have to do it in a way that mitigates the harm.”** *
The most famous version of this poem is by Doreen Valiente (1922-1999) in 1964: **" An’ye harm none, do what ye will. “An” is an archaic word meaning “if.”
Mrs. Gwen is best known for her long-form version of “Wiccan Rede,” for which she credits her grandmother Adrianna Porter for its creation. Although this statement lacks academic support, the Code is still one of the most widely circulated classic texts in Wicca circles. The following is an excerpt from Mrs. Gwen’s Code:
- Eight words ye Wiccan Rede fulfill: Eight words ye Wiccan Rede fulfill: An’ it harm none, do what ye will. *
Earlier than Gerald Gardner, Thelema founder Aleister Crowley (1875–1947) proposed in The Book of the Law in 1904: “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law. Whatever you wish to do shall be the whole of the Law” (Chapter 1, Section 40).
All these texts convey a similar core idea - “do no harm to any living being” - which has become the common principle of all contemporary Wicca precepts. This is the foundation of Wicca belief - respect others, be free and non-judgmental.
However, every practitioner either follows this precept or establishes his or her own moral code in practice. Although not all wizards follow the Wicca precepts, most do.
