#witch’s magic book丨New and old Wicca #3

The witch has two magic books, one is called Grimoire and the other is called Book of Shadows.
Grimoire: A place where learned information is stored. Spells, ritual structures and any information such as plant correspondences, notes, anything related to magic are here.
Book of Shadows: A place where secrets are kept. Such as the spells you create and cast, their results, your dreams, etc.
Old Wicca vs. New Wicca
Old Wicca (sometimes called the “old way”) refers to the traditions and practices set by Gerald Gardner and those set by Alex Sanders (1926-1988), who brought the Gardnerian tradition to the United States in the 1960s. At the time, the terms Wicca and witchcraft were considered synonymous, but this is not the case today.
In the past, the only way to become a Wiccan or learn witchcraft was through rigorous training and joining one of the traditions, such as Gardnerian, Alexandrian, Dianan, Saxon, Celtic or other Wiccan schools. Ancient witchcraft is considered mystical and members are strictly selected. Many wizarding orders are founded by former members; to become a high priest or priestess, one must spend many years practicing within the group, learning all they can about it.
The writings of Scott Cunningham (1956–1993) became a turning point in popularizing knowledge of witchcraft to the public. He is the author of over fifty books, many of which deal with magic, witchcraft, and independent magical practices. Cunningham’s books pioneered new ways of practicing witchcraft that did not require coven initiation rituals.
In the past, if you wanted to understand witchcraft, you had to seek advice from a member of the witchcraft group as a trainee. But Cunningham argued that there should be no taboos other than the secrets of personal practice. He tried to join a coven but ultimately chose to practice alone, and is willing to share his knowledge with anyone who is interested. This openness has promoted Wicca to evolve into new Wicca and become the mainstream practice form today.
Modern Wicca includes newer Wicca traditions inspired by older Wicca. Many practices of old Wicca still exist in modern Wicca, including combining the male and female divinities to perform rituals for festivals, moon phases, equinoxes, winter solstices, natural elements, initiations, and other important life stages.
Wicca changes and adapts with the times, but its core values and beliefs remain the same—respect for nature, the seasons or Sabbath, divinity, and practical ethics.
Modern Wicca has an eclectic quality, meaning that it incorporates diverse ideas and sources. Wicca today is viewed as a vague concept whose roots may be embedded in various beliefs or practices. For example, joya’s practice is comprised of Wicca and Shamanism, including Inca Shamanism, Astrology, Tarot, Herbalism, and Spiritual Work.
All you have to do is follow your heart to the path that is right for you.
